Poor Yorick Semiannual Open Studio
Poor Yorick Semiannual Open Studio
2003

In 2002, frustrated by the unwillingness of galleries in the area to show work that was a little bit different, several of us in my studio complex decided to just show our own work in our studios, so we put together a list of names and made up some postcards and had our first Open Studio Event.

Our first show had a fairly modest group of attendees, mostly our friends and family. But each time we did it, which ultimately ended up being twice a year on or near the equinoxes, the crowd grew and grew until the event became something of an underground anchor of the fledgling Salt Lake alternative art scene.

By the time of our big studio move in 2006, the event was drawing in hundreds of people, and was about as big as we could really handle.
