Some of these paintings are fairly straightforward reconstructions of actual events. Others are fictions based on a number of drawings and other reference recombined in my studio.
I sometimes paint on fiberglass and/or epoxy and polyester resins because the fiberglass matt texture has endless possibilities to play up or down the character of the paint.
Some of my pieces are extremely large. Feast, for instance, is 9.5 feet tall and 32 feet long.
Many of these paintings reference (and admittedly plunder) the works of el Greco, Courbet, Caravaggio, Hugo van der Goes, and other giants of the European tradition.
