Almost all of these paintings were painted entirely on site and plein air, with just a few that were begun or painted mostly on site and then completed later in the studio. Some of them took many return visits painting for several hours to complete, surrounded by yellow jackets, snakes and squirrels. A lot of sunscreen went into the creation of these paintings.

Standing alone in the junkyard with an igloo of Gatorade, singing along to Tom Waits and Beck on my Sony Discman, the sun slowly creeping across the cars and the weeds growing even more slowly between them, my sense of time was profoundly altered while I painted these works.

I paint what I like to look at when I am out there in the world: old trailers and dumpsters, architecture rich in history, form and color, and old cars, especially Volkswagens.
